Biden leads Trump among New York State voters by only 7 points, poll shows

ALBANY, N.Y. (TND) — President Joe Biden is leading former President Donald Trump among New York State voters by only seven points, according to an Emerson College Polling/The Hill/PIX11 survey released Thursday.
Forty-eight percent of respondents pledged support for Biden in a head-to-head matchup, compared to 41% for the presumptive Republican nominee. The survey also showed Trump with a 10-point advantage over Biden among Independent voters.
The poll is the latest showing of the president’s weakened New York support. Last week, a Siena College survey saw 47% of New York voters pick Biden, while 38% chose Trump. Biden won 61% of the state’s vote in the 2020 presidential election.
Thursday's poll was conducted before Trump was convicted of falsifying business records in a trial surrounding hush money payments purportedly paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claimed prior to the 2016 election the two had sex 10 years earlier. A Manhattan jury found the former president guilty on all 34 counts Thursday evening.
Twenty-seven percent of respondents for the Emerson College Polling/The Hill/PIX11 poll said they expected Trump to be convicted on all counts, while 29% believed the jury would not find him guilty on any counts. Following the verdict, Trump said the trial was “rigged,” suggesting Biden directed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to indict him.
This is a case where if they can do this to me, they can do this to anyone,” Trump argued. “These are bad people. These are, in many cases, I believe, sick people.”Forty-six percent of the survey’s respondents said they would find Trump guilty on all counts based on what they heard prior to the verdict. Trump claimed Friday Americans knew the trial was rigged.

“The public understands, and they understand what’s going on. This is a scam. This is a rigged trial,” he said. “It shouldn’t have been in that venue. We shouldn’t have had that judge.”
Biden told reporters Friday the verdict reaffirmed that nobody is above the law.
“It’s reckless, it’s dangerous, and it’s irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don’t like the verdict,” the president said. “Our justice system has endured for nearly 250 years, and it literally is the cornerstone of America — our justice system. The justice system should be respected, and we should never allow anyone to tear it down."
